Welcome to the IAS Confidence website. Here, you will find all available information about the Reliance class project and the first ship of the class, the IAS Confidence. The Confidence was a project I conceived about a month before it actually began taking shape. It all started when I remarked to Eclipse on August 30 that I should name one of my ships after his boat, the USCGC Confidence. From that day, I didn't really consider it as a project. I had been out of the ship-designing loop since I made the Muse class for my dear brother's hatching day in mid July. It wasn't until I had gotten to spend more time with Eclipse and Illucian, and learned of his upcoming mission to be out to sea for a month in October, that I really began working things out in my imagination. I wanted to do something for my valiant brother, Eclipse, and for my new sister, Illucian; something to honor Eclipse's bravery and service in the Coast Guard, and to honor Illucian's strength and courage in being detached from her soulmate while he served. My only true artistic talent lies in two dimensions, not three. I can draw symmetry without the aid of rules or graph paper; I can practically draw a straight line or a circle with my eyes closed. In the seven years I have spent designing starships, I had never undertaken a task so detailed as what I wanted to do for my soul-siblings. It wasn't far into the design phase that I realized I could let others sign their names to this project as well; to give them a little part of this labor of love I was determined to bring to light. It became something not dedicated only to my brother and sister, but to everyone who has wanted to be a part of it, and even to those whose names do not appear on the plaque. This is that something, the Interstellar Alliance Starship Confidence. Welcome aboard. |
