Iruka class
Interceptor
The Iruka class starfighter was the Federation's first real space superiority fighter. While past designs such as the Peregrine class lended new insights to fighter design, the Iruka class made them practical...and deadly.

When the only Iruka class interceptor ever constructed - the USS Velociraptor - was launched in 2374, the public was skeptic. Could this radical new ship really deliver the power promised by its design team? Only time would tell.

Time did tell. In the Battle of Ts'chak (2374.10.18), the Velociraptor was the Federation's main offensive weapon. Always on the front line, the Raptor made more kills than any of the other starships involved, including the 'Qapla class EHB Stenos. After the battle, the Velociraptor was given full operational status, and given the registry number of NCC-3000.

The Velociraptor has received one upgrade, in 2375, when advances in technology were rapid and many. However, since then, the only Iruka in the fleet has become nearly obsolete. The Federation, more interested in newer and bigger ship designs, has neglected the Raptor. Hopefully it will receive another upgrade soon, before it's too late.
